The Document Foundation announced today the general availability of the first point release of the LibreOffice 6.1 open-source office suite for all supported platforms, including Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Coming more than a month after the launch of the major LibreOffice 6.1 series, which introduced a revamped and much faster image handling feature, a new Page menu and reorganized Draw menus, a new icon theme for Windows users, new Online Help pages, and a much-improved LibreOffice Online, LibreOffice 6.1.1 adds more than 120 bug and regression fixes.

Is this the version where on my other forum, someone said they couldn't find some features in it .. they'd been hidden in a side panel ?

Maybe.

And, maybe, the OP has discovered some of the 'more than 120 bugs and regressions' ver 6.1.1 supposedly fixed.

I'm in the middle of another Peppermint Seven Xenial/Cosmic Cowboy Build, at the moment - just started testing it - testing it as I type, actually.  8)

When I get done here, I'll boot up my daily driver, and check things out.

That said, I've never been a fan on Libre Office, Apache Open Office, and the like. None of them allow me to collaborate with winders users, in my work environment. Macros are always their downfall/deal breaker. It's easier to simply dual-boot '10' and use the real thing, you know?

I was shocked - even slack-jawed - when LibreOffice 6.1.1 displayed xlsm files correctly.

I looked at some contracts that I wrote in MS Word, and saved in .docx format. 6.1.1 did a pretty good job, but it's not quite there yet. The same docs saved in .doc format were spot on, however.

Anyway, back to 'monkey business'.  ;D

I'll check it out later...

Up in 'Sin City' right now, on the Dell E6430 Latitude P7 'Road Warrior', and got a #$@! .docx file from D.C. that required immediate attention.

I had to make a call ASAP and was too rushed to close my work on Peppermint, open winders, and talk on the 'smarty', all at the same time - too early in the morn, you know?!?!?  Besides, that's secretarial work  8)

Instead, I installed LibreOffice 6.1.2 - worked a treat.  The .docx letter looked every bit as good as in MS Word.

I think they've finally got it figured out. Highly recommended...

BTW, snagged the blob over here: https://goo.gl/YN9ZLj  (official website)

Extract the files and run:

Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

...from CLI, inside the DEBS directory.

Working fine here Andy, though I haven't had chance to check docx compatibility yet.

I've a few .docx files.  They all seem to open and look perfect.  I can't detect any weirdness.  Long may it last.  I somehow doubt it though  :(.

I'd be surprised if it does last .. Microsoft may now love Linux/FOSS, but allowing others to milk their cash cow is probably another matter.
