Title: New Samsung 1Tb SSD's on the Horizon

"If the only thing stopping you from replacing your primary storage drive with a large capacity SSD is price, keep your eyes peeled for new products from Samsung. The company said it has started mass producing the industry's first 4-bit quad-level cell (QLC) 4TB SSD for consumers, and hinted that 1TB capacities will be more affordable as a result."

Lets see how affordable they become

Regards Zeb...

Great if it happens, but my guess is "1TB capacities will be more affordable as a result." will mean they're a fiver cheaper.
(even if they're cheaper to produce they'll adjust the margin upwards)

Damn I'm a cynic.

I've been watching 1TB SSD prices, ever since I got my first 60GB drive. I actually saw one the other day for $127.00 USD, shipped from China.

Actually, it was a 960GB SSD, but close enough for government work, as they say

Oh sure prices fall, but ALWAYS s-l-o-w-l-y as the competition undercut each other by 0.5% or so....

If a manufacturer invents a new process that halves costs, they still only undercut the opposition by a percent or so and raise their profit margin .. that's just the way markets work, and Samsung know it.

Capitalism = price at what the market will bear, it has nowt to do with cost.

Eventually they'll be cheaper than HDD's (and possibly already could be if it were purely about manufacturing costs) .. but it's still ten years off, whilst they screw as much out of you as the market will bear.

SSD's are now an established market with a lot of players, you're not liable to see the kind of behaviour that sometimes occurs in new markets where one manufacturer is even happy to sell at a loss in an attempt to keep others out and corner the market before manufacturing costs fall and they can start to recoup.

I'll not be expecting any sudden price fall.

So tempted (the deal I was referring to above): https://goo.gl/X2YPmK

No bragging rights, but I could always put it in my 32-bit Dell Dimension 3000 for laughing rights.   8)

Oh, my.

I just found a Crucial 1TB MX300 SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD for $149.99 USD

That's $88 under Black Friday week.  Now, it's getting interesting.  :)
