Title: [SOLVED] 3/4 Netbookscreen blank
Post by: dro3m on June 13, 2018, 12:27:40 pm
Hi, I have a Toshiba NB205. Netbook I had Peppermint OS 8 freshly installed and updated. My problem is that every time I boot up, 3/4 of the login screen is missing with red, green and blue dots on top and it will stay there after I login. I can move my mouse cursor into the blank area  and see it just fine. I can only remove the problem by closing the netbook lid, let it sleep and awake it. I had the same problem in Ubuntu Mate. But this problem does not happen in Bodhi Linux, Linux Mint, Linux Lite, and Lubuntu. What cause this problem, and how can I fix it? Any thing well do.

Welcome Aboard, dro3m!    ;)

You can start by checking for additional drivers.  Navigate: Menu > Preferences > Peppermint Settings Panel and choose Hardware on the left side menu.  Open "Additional Drivers" and let it search (may take some time).  If there is one you can install it from there.

Please post the results of
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz

Ah, thank you. It worked perfectly. I would suggest adding that bit of code to the next major update to add more support. Well done, thank you.  :)

Peppermint 9 will be the next major update (due out soon), and I gather this isn't necessary on the 18.04 code base :)

I don't know how different a Toshiba NB255 is from your 205 (they should be the same hardware wise?), but I had great results installing with both P8 and the Respin2 versions.....Other than the common issues seen with 1024x600 max resolution screens and the occasional menu being too large to see all the options or buttons at the bottom of the menu.

But definately good to bookmark this fix, thanks PCNetSpec!

Is it already there? Or does it have something like it?

No, I gather the fix simply isn't necessary on the 18.04 code base and was a bug specific to the 16.04 code base.

I won't know for sure until someone with a netbook confirms it, but the original bug report suggests the bug isn't present in 18.04

Um, me I had Lubuntu 18.04 on my netbook and I had no issues, so I think your clear.

Cheers for the confirmation :)

You want me to be a beta/alpha tester? I only have 32-bit computers at the moment (most likely for a while) as my main rig died a few months ago. R.I.P  Stormtrooper 1.0
