Title: XFCE Development, Roadmap and Future
Post by: PeppermintFan on February 27, 2018, 08:14:41 am
Just found this article and wanted to share.

https://fosspost.org/analysis/xfce-4-14-development-roadmap-future (https://fosspost.org/analysis/xfce-4-14-development-roadmap-future)

The biggest things that bothers me about this that may relate to our favourite distro...
"Only 15 different contributors"

Do you ever think they will finish the porting to GTK + 3?
How will this affect Peppermint?

Yep they'll finish it, in fact I've watched their roadmap
https://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.14/roadmap
come a VERY long way in the last 6 months .. and to me it appears to be nearing completion (though probably not in time for 18.04).

That said, some of the components we use are completed, so we'll just have to weigh up which new components (such as xfce4-notifyd) can be integrated in PM9 and which older ones we'll have to run with.

It's not a problem for us .. we don't use it all, and because they have the good sense to make it extremely modular can easily go with 4.12 components where necessary until the 4.14 ones are ready :)

Thanks for the detailed answer!  I'm glad PM9 will not be affected.
