The current kernel (as of 31 Oct 2017)  is 4.10.0-38

Unless you've pinned the kernel you shouldn't have to do anything to manually install it .. the update manager should do it for you.

Well you could, but you'll find the 4.8, 4.10 (hwe-16.04 <-- this is the default for PM8) and 4.11 kernels ..I'd suggest you stick with the current default kernel as it will soon get rolled onto the 4.13 series automagically.

Seriously, stick with the default and just let it update automatically unless you have a specific reason not to.

Okay I getcha :)

Look in synaptic for the package linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 .. that's the metapackage that updates the kernel in Peppermint 8 so should always have the same version number the current Peppermint 8 kernel ;)

Or you can run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update && clear && apt-cache policy linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04
