Type this into a terminal:

inxi -Fz

You'll get a whole list of stuff, including the Peppermint version.

The version is also visible when you shutdown from the menu.
"Logout Peppermint ... session?"

Another method: Go to the Menu and look for the Software & Updates It's in the Preferences sub group. Then visit the Other Software tab. This tab along with the rest is a great way to find at a glance information on your Ubuntu based system.

That gives you the kernel currently running, not the OS version.
