Title: Your Profile Can Not Be Used ... What Does This Mean? (SOLVED)
Post by: perknh on June 05, 2014, 07:39:24 pm
I've gotten this message a few times after I've clicked onto a game in Peppermint 4's menu.  I've never seen this message before, and everything seems to work after I click Okay

This is the message:

Quote
Your profile can not be used because it is from a newer version of Chromium.

Some features may be unavailable. Please specify a different profile directory or use a newer version of Chromium.

The message seems odd, and I don't understand it.  What is different profile directory, and how can I specify it?

I did download Iron Browser last night, and it appeared exactly the same as my Peppermint 4 Chromium browser.  Iron's homepage was Peppermint, and the default search engine was DuckDuckGo too.   I found this odd, and, after seeing this unusual message above, I removed Iron browser.  I  should also mention that the add-ons I added to Iron Browser, are now found on my Peppermint 4 Chromium browser, although I have never added these add-ons to Chromium Browser.  They appeared on Chromium Browser after I had added them to Iron Browser.  I find this to be odd.

My default browser is, and has been, Maxthon For Linux beta.

Other than this odd recent message I've been receiving, and the add-ons to Chromium Browser, my installation of Peppermint 4  is as good as new -- no other problems.

Thank you,

perknh

P.S.

I come up with some doozies, don't I?

Maxthon is built on Chrome/Chromium and the Maxthon you installed has a later profile version than the Chromium-browser.  So, try the following....

Code: [Select]
mv ~/.config/chromium/Default ~/.config/chromium/Backup

After that, when you start the Chromium-browser it should create a new profile and the message should disappear.  ;)

Thank you, Mac.

Is this an apt-get install mv ~/.config/chromium/Default ~/.config/chromium/Backup command?

Nothing happened when I put your command in the terminal -- at least nothing I could see!

Nope, it's not a sudo apt-get command!  But, I went to games, after putting mv ~/.config/chromium/Default ~/.config/chromium/Backup and, presto -- no more message.  And what's more, the add-ons that appeared on my Chromium browser have vanished too!

Thank you, Mac.  You have fixed the problem!

Nope, it doesn't show you what it's doing......either it's a secret or lxterminal is embarrassed.   ;D

BTW, you can remove the backup profile you created if you want to.....

Code: [Select]
rm -rf ~/.config/chromium/Backup

--Mac

Mac, I suspect the cause is profound embarrassment.  Our OS knows it should have version 37 for our default Chromium Browser, and not a measly version 31!   I suspect our lxterminal is deeply embarrassed about this, and would like to keep the whole affair quite lowkey!   ;D

Also, Mac, I have now removed the backup profile for Chromium.

By the way, I've found  that Maxthon Version 1.0.3.1  works great with Peppermint 4.

Peppermint OS and Maxthon Browser go very well together.

Thank you, Mac.

You're welcome.  I'm sure it will work fine in the  upcoming P5, as well.   ;)
