Hi PCNetSpec,

I'm planning to buy iBall Excelance CompBook. It is Preintall with Windows 10 Home but I want to install PM7 on this. So I want to know is it compatible with PM7.

Product Details as Below:-
iBall Excelance CompBook 11.6-inch Laptop (Atom Z3735F/2GB/32GB/Windows 10/Integrated Graphics)

In these days in India lot off such models with Atom Z3735F motherboard available and all are Preinstall with Windows and nobody offering this with Linux.

So I request you please advice.

Honestly, I've tried that processor. Don't waste your time and money on them if you want to run Linux.

It's HIGHLY likely to have a 32bit UEFI bootloader .. Currently Peppermint 6 and 7 don't support this .. neither does Ubuntu or Mint (or most other distros), Debian do but there's a VERY good chance it'l give you all sorts of other problems, some of the Z series CPU's have power management that simply doesn't work in Linux.

What I'm understand that these Motherboard specifically design for windows purposefully.  >:(

So Linux can't run on this. :-\

Anyway ....Thank you murraymint and PCNetSpec

Why cheap systems run 32-bit UEFI on x64 processors by Brian Richardson

Will vendors stop shipping 32-bit versions of 64-bit platforms anytime soon? It’s hard to tell, but I doubt demand will cease for cheaper consumer devices. So Linux support for UEFI IA32 is still an unanswered question. Linux users have requested this option, and some work has been done to bridge the gap … but it’s still an unofficial hack with mixed results. That means Linux distros have to evaluate how they support cheaper Intel devices, and Linux users have to do a bit homework when selecting a new system for experimentation.

If it was only the bootloader it would be comparatively easy to solve.

As PCNetSpec says, the power management is completely borked as far as Linux is concerned. You won't be able to suspend or hibernate properly, for example.

You're also very likely to have problems getting sound out of the device. The built-in WiFi chip is usually something for which a Linux driver doesn't exist.

There's definitely a market for affordable devices which don't have these problems, I would have thought.
