Is this a laptop ?

If so, can you mention the make/model ?

Try this .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo pluma /etc/asound.conf
when a BLANK file opens, make it read
Code: [Select]
pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
    type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
    type pulse
}
SAVE the file and exit pluma

Log OFF/ON (or REBOOT)

test your volume keys.

To UNDO
Code: [Select]
cd /etc
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v asound.conf
then REBOOT.

Hi linuxguy86

Glad this worked for you. Can you please go to your first post and click Modify and append [SOLVED] to the subject line.
This will help other users with a similar problem find a solution :)

Regards Zeb...

If it works on your hardware in PM7, it should also work in PM6 .. but there's no guarantee it'll work for all hardware in either.

Give it a shot .. you can easily undo the changes ;)

Here is a script I made thanks to the advice from the user: PCNetSpec (Thanks You PCNetSpec!! )

Download it using the terminal:
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xejrx721/public_main/master/volume_key_fix.sh

Or Get it From here
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xejrx721/public_main/master/volume_key_fix.sh (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xejrx721/public_main/master/volume_key_fix.sh)

**dont forget to make the file executable**
chmod +x volume_key_fix.sh

**To run it**
./volume_key_fix.sh

What Does It Do:
1) It will create the file asound.conf in the local directory and add the text to it.
2)It will move the file to /etc (you will be asked your password)
3)it will reboot your machine (use ctrl-c if you dont want to do this)

I hope this works for You
I have used this on a Dell and an HP laptop so far running Peppermint7 and it works.

Not sure about upstream .. I could easily put the file in the ISO so it's applied both in a Live session and on installation but I have no way of knowing for sure that it won't have detrimental affects on systems where everything works properly.
