Title: Pepppermint 7 hang on disk detection (installation)
Post by: armageddon51 on July 25, 2016, 05:15:09 pm
I am trying to install Pep 7 on an older machine (Abit Kn8 Ultra - Amd Athlon 64). At the phase where it scan for disks, it just  turn in circle and never come back. I have install Mint 18 on that partition before without any issue.
Any idea ?

None whatsoever, it uses the same ubiquity installer as Mint 18 so if Mint 18 worked so should Peppermint7

If you start the Mint 18 installer again, does Mint 18 get stuck at disk detection now .. which would suggest a hardware or partition problem.

Anything else I could suggest carries risk.....

I mean I could say "format the drive and try again", but if it does turn out to be a hardware problem you may now not be able to get ANY OS installed

Ok got it to work. If I select "install" directly from the installation disk, it's turning in circle at that point but after selecting the demo mode, I was able to launch the installer and install everything. Good to go.

One note, there is nothing displayed in the install window during the installation, only the progress and comments at the bottom. That's normal ?

If you mean there was no slideshow during the installation .. NO that's NOT normal.
