Title: Peppermint 7 - Steam on the open source ATI radeon drivers
Post by: PCNetSpec on June 27, 2016, 01:46:05 pm
If you're attempting to run the steam client under Peppermint 7 on a PC with the open source ATI radeon drivers, but the steam client just crashes...

Try opening Steam from the terminal with:
Code: [Select]
steam
if that returns the following error:-

SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred
X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)

Try this fix .. open a terminal and run these 4 commands in sequence
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
then:
Code: [Select]
mv -v libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.bak
then:
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
then:
Code: [Select]
mv -v libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.bak
now see if steam will start with:
Code: [Select]
steam

To UNDO

Code: [Select]
cd ~/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
then:
Code: [Select]
mv -v libstdc++.so.6.bak libstdc++.so.6
then:
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
then:
Code: [Select]
mv -v libstdc++.so.6.bak libstdc++.so.6
