Anyone who knows how to clear chat history in Skype 4.2.0.13?

Select Options > Privacy
In the Privacy window you'll find "Keep chat history for..." and an option window just below that.
Use the arrows (right side) to choose your desired option (Disable History).  Apply and Close.  Logout and then login.

No. That doesn't remove the chat history.

Hmm.  Okay...
EDIT: Open your History and select the events you wish to remove (by dragging, or by selecting individual events)
Right-click and select Delete Event (or for multiple events, Delete Selected Events)

If you want to disable your chat history on Linux:
Click the small Skype icon on the bottom right corner of the screen and select Options > Privacy
From the Keep chat history drop-down, select Disable History
Click Apply and Close

If that doesn't do it, you can remove your Skype profile (nukes entire profile)

In your terminal and with Skype not running....
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.Skype
create a backup
Code: [Select]
cp ~/.Skype ~/skype.bk
remove .Skype directory
Code: [Select]
rm -r ~/.Skype

logout / login or reboot

No, contacts will not be restored but you can get them from the backup you created.
EDIT: Just tried this and could not figure out how to restore the contacts without restoring the chat history, as well, as they are both stored in the main.db file.
So, AFAIK, you'll need to reenter your contacts.

Thanks for researching this. Aren't the contacts stored on Skype's servers though?

Yes, they are stored on the Skype server but I do not know how to retrieve / restore them.  Very little info for Linux is available from Skype Support on this kind of issue and I've Googled everything I can think of but come up empty.  Sorry.  Skype support offers a chat / email option but I'm not sure if it's free or you have to pay for it.  I don't know who the Skype guru is here on the Peppermint forum but maybe he/she will chime in on this. soon.
