Title: Can't 'see' Peppermint machines on my network (solved)
Post by: tcwild on July 19, 2015, 05:28:53 pm
without making the story too long, I have many devices/machines on a home/business wireless network, so not new to the concepts, and with other distros (Ubuntu, specifically) this wasn't a problem; but...

I have two different machines with fresh Peppermint Six installs, both are connected (with no issues) to my network, and I can see the other devices; but they cannot see either of the Peppermint machines. I have tried the 'Unlock' button in the Network dialogue, and it doesn't seem to do anything (and doesn't remain 'unlocked').

How do I share these systems such that the other network clients can see them?

Thanks.

Install system-config-samba:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install system-config-samba
then go to:

menu > System Tools > Samba

and configure a share

Once done, reboot both the Peppermint PC and the Windows one.

I'll give it a go, thank you!

Well...

I installed Samba on both P6 machines, configured a share on each (same exact settings). It worked on one of the machines (everyone on the network sees everybody else), and not on the other (the P6 box sees everybody else; but other nodes don't see the P6 box).

I'm going to mark this as solved, because now I have a new problem with both machines. :(
