Title: Peppermint stickers?
Post by: Celanor on June 01, 2015, 07:24:00 pm
You know those 'powered by Ubuntu/Linux Mint/etc.' stickers available from places like ThinkPenguin? Do 'powered by Peppermint' ones exist, and from where could I purchase them, if so? :)

I'm not talking about the stickers already available in the shop, though now we're on the subject, I may as well ask: as a non-US Peppermint user, are there any plans to make international shipping available for those?

Not that we're aware of

I did do some mockups a while ago though as a bit of a jole :)

I like those! Trying to remember the name of a place that could get some made for me. EDIT: Found it! http://www.unixstickers.com/stickers/linux_os_distribution_stickers

And, no they're not, as per the shop page:

Please let me know if they're willing to make some of the above (and how much), or some "powered by Peppermint" versions .. I may be able to get Shane to offer them on the main site.

Are the old round stickers still available?  Those are great for covering up Windows stickers or residue from Windows stickers.  I had some rough residue from one of the Windows license stickers on the side of the case on one of my computers, even WD-40 wouldn't take it off.  So, I covered it up with one of the old ICE stickers.  It works great.   :D

Yeah they can be bought from the shop though they're slightly different to the early One/ICE stickers (they have the more recent flat logo) .. but apparently they're not available outside the US :(

Wow, that sucks.  I didn't know there wasn't international shipping on those.  :(

I'm guessing international shipping would price them too high, maybe they could be sold with a USB stick though .. I'll have a word with Shane and see if anything can be done.

I've asked about potential 'powered by Peppermint' stickers, will let you know if I hear anything back!

I was thinking yesterday afternoon as I was using my laptop, these stickers would be great to have.  It came with Windows 7 64-bit, which ran atrociously.  I replaced that first with Xubuntu and then with Peppermint Five and now it runs fantastically.  (at least, as well as it can)

After Microsoft  bullied netbook manufactures into installing Windows rather than Linux (which at the time required an HDD rather than a small SSD which killed off netbooks as they were then effectively seen as underpowered mini laptops without a DVD drive, yet expensive because of the added cost of Windows) OEM's were too scared to put anything but Windows on PC's, even underpowered ones.

OEM's aren't as easy to bully any more, hence the Chromebooks and some OEM's toying with Linux again :)

also hence Microsoft giving away Win8.1 (with Bing).

If only there was a netbook resurgence now.....

I really wish more companies would build more computers with Linux.  Though, I also have an issue with most of them choosing Ubuntu when they do so, especially on budget computers.  My budget laptop has a 1 GHz dual core, 3GB DDR3 and a graphics APU, so it's not blazing fast.  The issue is, it came with Win7, which is terribly bloated.  However, it won't run Utunbu with Unity any better.  It's too bloated too.  That's one reason I came back to Peppermint.  No bloat, just a fast and snappy OS.  For a computer like this, they need something like Peppermint preinstalled if they want their users to get the most out of the hardware.

My next laptop is probably going to be a Zareason one with no OS preinstalled so that I can put Peppermint on it.  :)

Probably not a  bad idea, but what are Zareason like price wise ? .. some "Linux" specialists overcharge in my opinion .. which also pi**es me off.

That said, with age most things tend to pi** me off these days  >:( :)

I like their prices.  They're a bit higher than made in China budget PCs, but their prices can at least be justified by looking at the components used (Intel) and the place of manufacture (California.)
