Title: Peppermint 5 auto login (Solved)
Post by: dfarquharson on October 28, 2014, 06:09:59 am
How do I get Peppermint 5 to automatically login with a specific user. I am setting up 2 dozen netbooks for use by elementary school classes and dealing with 2 dozen students trying to log in is way too much hassle. All the info I find says to edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf but that file does not exist in Peppermint 5. The latest info I find on lubunto says to go in to /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/ but that directory contains the following files:
50-greeter-wrapper.conf
50-guest-wrapper.conf
50-xserver-command.conf
60-lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf
and none of these contain any login entries.

If /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf doesn't exist, create it by following the instructions below...

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.confmake it read:-
Code: [Select]
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=username
autologin-user-timeout=0
autologin-session=lightdm-autologin
SAVE the file and REBOOT to test.

Be SURE to replace username in the above example with the username of the account you want to autoligin .. so for example if I wanted to autolgin user 'mark' I'd make it read:
Code: [Select]
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=mark
autologin-user-timeout=0
autologin-session=lightdm-autologin
