Title: Panel preference tweaks [SOLVED]
Post by: acer on October 26, 2014, 03:14:02 pm
Hi all, In need of 'experienced assistance.'

1. Is there any way to add a search facility to the panel? I can't seem to find it in the 'Panel Preferences' [Advanced] tab.

2. Also, Is there a tweak to show the function 'name' opposed to the icon for the panel item?
I seem to remember an option to do this but, it may have been in an xfce distro used in the past.. :-\

Help would be sincerely appreciated  :)

Hi acer, try this for the file search in the panel.

Right click on the panel.  Select: Add/Remove Panel Items, select Panel Applets, select +Add from the right hand column.  Select Application Launch Bar and click +Add.  The newly installed Application Launch Bar will have appeared at the bottom of the panel window below an already existing one containing the logout button.  Position the launch bar in the panel using the Up and Down arrows in the right hand column.  Click on the Edit button in the right hand column and select, Accessories > File Search.  Click on +Add.  You should have a search icon in the panel.

I don't think the LXPanel supports just text.  You can however have text and icons.  Right click on the panel and select, "Task Bar (Window List)" Settings.  Uncheck the Icons Only box and click close.  That should do it.  I hope this helps.  Have fun  ;)!!

AndyInMokum, thanks that's done the trick  :)

Ah, so LXPanel doesn't support individual preferences for either/both text or icons separately.
I must have been thinking of the xfce panel manager from the past which can do this.

cool, thanks
