Lost ethernet connection after laptop returns from sleep
« on: July 23, 2020, 11:09:06 am »
When my laptop goes into suspend/sleep mode and then wakes up, the ethernet connection does not reconnect. I find I have to reboot to restore it. Any ideas?

Hi Slim

This is not a wireless issue, but with a wired ethernet. Do you have a similar set of commands related to wired ethernet?

Hi hoeky,

Sorry about that -- my bad. Unfortunately I am not a network guru by any means. I was hoping that someone out there would see this info and jump in with a solution for your issue. Sorry, but I do not know what sort of cammands will provide info for your ethernet problems.  :(

Hopefully, someone who is a network guru will see this thread and help you.

I hope that this suggestion may help.

Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network
Find the following line under Ethernet interface

logical name: eno1 (eno1 is my output, your logical name may well be different)

Then try these commands

To turn off ethernet

Code: [Select]
sudo ip link set down eno1
To turn on ethernet

Code: [Select]
sudo ip link set up eno1
Don't forget to change eno1 to your own ethernet logical name from the output of the first command.

Tried changing to MATE power manager as described in the linked post above - no change.

invisible, will try your suggestion which will turn ethernet back on, but I'm really trying to get it to turn automatically on resume.  ;)
