Just wanted to say "Thanks all" for this thread. I'd been using PLinux to resurrect an old laptop without a hard drive, and used it every day for a few years until the laptop died.  I wanted another O/S on a stick, but I was doing the install on my wife's Windows machine and "Delete Partition kept freaking me out (if I deleted the wrong partition, sleeping on the couch did not appeal).  A little read-through of the forum topic and I came to the conclusion that I was over thinking it.  The partitiion I needed to delete was on the USB drive, and, yes that ws available.  Selected it. Hey-presto.  One bootable USB, for any machine.  Thank you guys.

Please note: Boot to Windows 10 from cold-and-dark to a usable desktop on a Thinkpad T540 is 1 minute 42 seconds. Firefox launches in 34 seconds.  Peppermint Linux launches off of a USB in 41 seconds. Firefox start, 9 seconds.
