OnThisDay ... My Peppermint Anniversay...
« on: June 10, 2020, 11:42:27 am »
My trusty old Seamonkey Lightning calendar; reminds me that I reformatted my Toshiba Qosmio F25 AV 205 on this day in 2010.

Back then, I split the 100 GB drive in half in order to dual boot WinXP which was coughing up blood, but hadn't yet turned into a newt. I installed PeppermintOne which ran like lighting. Way Way WAY faster than XP ever had performed, even when the laptop was new in 2005.

Eventually I grew brave enough to update WinXP to that short-lived Win 8 Preview edition. It actually ran as fast as whatever version of pepOS I had on it at the time. When the preview ended though, winblowsscriptkiddo algorithms prevented me from upgrading to a full Win8 ... despite running for months, my hardware was deemed incompatible...

 >:(

So I wiped Win8 preview off and did a full Peppermint install.

I'm fairly certain Peppermint 7 was the last pepOS I installed before that old Intel Pentium M processor gave up the ghost. My trusty old machine was tossed over the rainbow recycling bridge...

I do miss watching the snowflakes & other screensavers that scrolled & twirled so brilliantly down it's really wonderful display... Nothing I have owned since has had such a deep, full & rich colorization on it's screen. It was designed to be an audio visual hub after all. Toshibas were stunning back then, but weighed a ton.

Happy Anniversary man!  :)

Well, I haven't used Pepp OS that long. I stumbled upon it three years ago, some time in 2017. Quite accidentally. Was looking for some Xubuntu and Linux Mint alternative. It was Pepp OS 8, I think. Tried it via USB flash drive. It was flying, literally.

And never looked back ever since. My main machine has been running Peppermint since then. It's Pepp 10 now, of course. Pepp 9 was longest serving on that machine. It is really rock solid.

My Linux journey started in 2017 with Peppermint 8 too and been using it ever since. Currently Pepp 10 Respin.

@spence: congrats 8) ;)

i started on pep4, but was hopping between pep lubuntu and debian for a few years. kept the isos on a usb for backup or to put on older pcs

linux wise it was 2010, downloaded mint and ubuntu on the same day after watching some youtube showoff videos. mint was very unstable at the time so went with ubuntu instead. miss the old gnome 2 days :D

My first Linux experience was with P 6 in early 2015 after a ligtning storm took out my motherboard and after installing Win XP I found out my owner's key wasn't valid any more. Back then funds were tight so I would buy used motherboards and hard drives which resulted in numerous fresh installs. Once I found out about using a DATA partiton, it was bring it on!
What was I thinking?

funny one, was looking at lord kaans request to get the peppermint 6 icons, and just remembered i had an old peppermint install disc which turned out to be pep6. ripped the cd to an iso then burned it back to an old 1gb usb. booted it up and using it right now, still updates but some stuff i want to install isnt found. still a fine distro :)
