Hi fires,

So have you checked whether the file exists? Use your file manager to check. Note that the directory .local is a "hidden" directory -- to see it in the file manager you need to press the key combination <Ctrl><h> when the file manager is open. Let us know if you encounter any problems finding the file steam.xml.gz in the indicated location.

Hi fires,

Well, then it looks like that file was somehow deleted. Do or did you have steam installed? If you did or do have it installed, does it currently function?

Code: [Select]
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
Code: [Select]
GPG error: http://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu artful InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 818A435C5FCBF54AThe repository 'http://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu artful InRelease' is not signed.
So this error is Because steam ??

thanks

Hi fires,

The missing public key could have been because they (for whatever reason) did not make it available. How did you install steam? Did you add the steam repository to your sources list? If so, perhaps you made an error when doing that. If you did not add the public key, that would also be a source for this error.

Hi fires,

If you do not require/want any updates for steam then you can ignore the message and remain with the currently installed version of steam. If the message bothers you and you wish to get rid of it then you would need to remove the steam repository info from your sources list. This can be done by starting the synaptic package manager, then click on the menu bar entry Settings and select Repositories. In the window that opens click on the tab Other Software. Remove the check for any entry that is for steam (or click on the steam entry and then click on the button Remove).

BTW: you are welcome.  :)

I always, always download Steam from the Steam website, as it's a Deb file and after installing it with Gdebi installer, it automatically updates after you've clicked the icon under
Code: [Select]
Menu/Games It's not that I don't trust Synaptic, just that I know I'm getting it straight from the horses mouth so to speak.  :D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)
