New Member today. 10 Respin. Where to find info. (Solved)
« on: June 06, 2020, 03:29:39 pm »
Hi,

I installed this today to dual boot on an Asus laptop.

This was prompted by the recent Windows updates killing my Nook HD+ 9 - before it's time.

Battery screen etc all work fine but when I plug it in to Win 10; calibre closes and there are errors connecting to the device.
I decided to try a Linux distro to see if I could get Calibre running and maintain the library in that.

The user manual does not seem to go into things like attaching USB devices and getting them to supported levels.
Can anyone here point me to where I might get some guidance.

Thanks in advance.
BP

Hello and welcome to Peppermint OS. Calibre is not part of our official build nor included with our distribution. It is available to install via:  menu > system > synaptic package manager... type calibre in the search box...

Happy Pepperminting...

Have you mounted your device first by clicking on it in the left column of Files?

Thanks for all the replies.

Turns out that I was overthinking things. I installed calibre from the package manager before I joined this forum and asked this question.

Prompted by Spence's comments I have only just plugged in the device to the USB port on the computer and started up Peppermint.
When I logged in I started Calibre and over the next 2-3 minutes a message appeared to notify that "My Nook" had been found and offering to manage it with Calibre.
I selected to manage it then watched as the device appeared in Calibre.

From there I selected the books on the device and imported to library. It took a while to start but had just completed before I logged in here to document my journey.

Thanks @rayzer for that command to help with mounting devices. Is it worthwhile to run it even though it is not required for Calibre/Nook?

Thanks @murraymint Were the device not already working I would be looking at your suggestion now.

My last few encounters with Linux/Unix were a much more painful step by step learning process. I guess that this set my expectation to find this all a lot less user friendly.

I look forward to being more and more impressed by the OOBE from Peppermint.

Kind regards,
BP

Hi bobpace,

It turns out that what rayzer gave you was a command that would install some software that could have been necessary had your device not mounted properly. It looks like you will not be needing these programs, so do not run that command.  ;)  If you have run it already, do not panic. You just have installed some software that you probably will not really need, and it does not take up that much space on your storage disk. Nevertheless, if you wish to remove those programs, let us know and rayzer or I will tell you how to remove them.  :)

BTW, welcome to the PeppermintOS forum !!  8)

yeah, what slim said was correct, they help in mounting devices as sometimes ubuntu users can run into trouble with them. once its installed you dont need to do anymore or you can remove it if you wish.
For wallpapers ive made you can download them here
