peppermintos .info - not available [solved]
« on: May 31, 2020, 02:35:19 pm »
I can't reach the domain:  peppermintos .info (without the spacer)

Reason:
I need it for the command:
Code: [Select]
sudo wget https://peppermintos.info/misc/PM6-Peppermix-Icons.tar.gz
--2020-05-31 23:21:56--  https://peppermintos.info/misc/PM6-Peppermix-Icons.tar.gz

Auflösen des Hostnamens peppermintos.info (peppermintos.info) … fehlgeschlagen: Temporärer Fehler bei der Namensauflösung.
wget: Host-Adresse »peppermintos.info« kann nicht aufgelöst werden

(see an elder Topic (September or Ocotber last year) of me) - by installing the Peppermint & Theme

Could be, that it is only temporal;
could be, that there are some seriouse

thx

New Web Hosting, As posted in our Announcements:

https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,9792.msg97590.html#msg97590

Thx;
I was nearly guessing something like this; when i read: Board-SW is new

May i friendly ask -without nailing you; when u expect, that the .info - domain will be available again??
A Week or two - or longer?

@rayzer

Thx for your helpfull help !!!!!

But there are few more things, i have to do on my system;
where the links lead to the info domain
p.e.:
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,8851.0.html
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,3705.msg40415.html#msg40415

and some more
(And noobish as i am , i am happy, when i can follow the instructions, PCNetSpec gave me (and others),
cause i do all this "things" like a roboter, when i set up a new computer)

So, i can wait, when it will least a week or two;
if the domain didn t come back - yep, than we will have to find a solution

But thx 4 the moment

if you want to copy the folders into whatever version youre on try this:

if it uses pcmanfm use  sudo pcmanfm
if it has nemo type sudo nemo
in the new window that opens (usually says elevated privileges or gives warning on top) click on file system then go to /usr/share/icons drop the peppermix icons folders in there

if the icons dont show up in your appearance settings go to your home directory, press CTRL+H to show hidden files then go to .local/share/icons instead. create the icons folder if its not there and drop them in there instead.
one of either location should work
For wallpapers ive made you can download them here

Hi all,
Yes peppermint.info is currently unavailable. I'm trying to migrate it to a new host and it hasn't been cooperating.

Okay, it seems .info is back, but there are troubles with the "https" (Certificat)

Our migration needed to be done in haste, everyone's continued patience is greatly appreciated.

 ;)

I'm more than a wee bit curious... might you provide us a link to the page where you are linking back to our pages?

I was working on this last night and ran into a glitch with our security certificate for the domain forwarding. Hence the security alert if you visit it right now. I hope to have this fixed soon but don't have an estimated time when it will be restored.

In that case the file is gone. I had searched through .info prior to the migration trying to get a sense of what was there. Mostly duplicates of Peppermint ISO files. I suspect Mark used this as a storage space more than anything else. It was pretty disorganized and I couldn't make sense of it.

I had to purge most of what was there to reduce hosting costs after VPS.net sent us a crazy invoice.

Unfortunately that meant keeping the core stuff. Website, Forum and letting the rest go.

Sorry. I missed this one and likely a lot of others like it.

Sorry, i duno know who "Mark" is; is he "PCNetSpec"?

This isn't a good news; cause few tutorials -as i saw- a refering the .info adresse (with and without Software),

and Noobish as i am (I duno understand most of the terminal stuff; i just do step-by Stepas recoomanded) it would be hard, to find a new solution. (Hopefully iso will return; maybe under the new adress/Downloadserver (like university), so that i can try, cause i duno have all offline; or no glue, how to do; even, when rayzer try to explain it (I will try this way)))
Meanwhile the info adress still said, cant read the certificate.
----------------
OT:
Of course, i understand, what it means, to reduce costs; and where it makes sense to offer "old" stuff vs. costs.
And  i prefer, to keep the community (beside a great OS) instead lose them, cause reasons of money,
I guess, there is a way, to find solutions

-------
Last time; few days before (see my test thread) I wasn able to reply ; i was refused by the server; only "small" replys, like this test stuff, works; - the side said, i should report this issu to the admin;
Seems it's fixed now

Hey Rayzer;
It seems, i have to come back to your recommandation...
Maybe u got it; I am absolutly "Noobish", by installing anything under Linux;
I can do it only under "Software-Installer", or step by step instruction (where i can fail), like the linked examples

So it would be nice, if u -or anyone else- could make (4 ppl. like me) a tutorial; or set a link to a topic (maybe it is allready discuss by anyone else)

Thanks 4 the moment
--------------
and i found (it is inside the settings) allready a way, to replace the Whisker menu with the one with the "one"-row;
so there are only the old "icons" missing

Hi LordKaan,

Unfortunately it seems that you will never find the icon file you are searching for at any PeppermintOS address -- it was deleted during the move to a new service provider for PeppermintOS. If you are lucky, then one of the other forum users has this file and can make it available to you. Otherwise, it is gone.

Regards,
