Glad that you find them easy to install, getting them to appear in the menus, has always been my personal struggle Johan... got tips for lliam53 and me?

I don't know how to get them in the menu's. I always make a link for Thunderbird and Firefox, drag it to my desktop and modify the icon via Properties. I download the icons for Thunderbird and Firefox.

BTW I just dowloaded and installed the tarball of Palemoon. Screenshot:

Personally, I prefer NOT to have icons on my desktop screens. Somehow or another I managed to put a launcher for Seamonkey in the taskbar panel... but that wasn't what I was intending. But it's working for me on my desktop.

I will be away for a while, so perhaps another Trusted User will chime in shortly

Only 2 iconsfor me without them my desktop feels naked. I don't know how to get the launcher on the panel. Clatterford Slim does.

dirived from the post 'A Newbie Discussion'

Some noddy or noddies [at google?] decided that it was handy [cool?] to have tabs along the top edge of the browser [chrome] instead of along the top of the actual site area [often called tabs on top] so that adress and bookmarks bars form a separator. Many browsers including Firefox now tow this line and even removed the 'on top' option. Pale Moon [a Firefox dirivative]: is my alternative in Windows. I now find there are more browsers available in the Linux community which still have my preferred Tabs on top [of the site field] option which is good news. Just as amatter of interest can I get Pale Moon running in P10? I picked up the TAR from the Pale Moon site, and extracted it. None of the instructions for installation via Terminal work, practically speaking I get 'no such file or directory' or when something does start it comes back with a 'failed' message. Even the [correct] instructions for installing a TAR, IN PEPPERMINT, would help...

Answer from 'murraymint'  quote              All I can tell you is that a tar is just an archive and usually contains instructions within it for the software. If they don't work you'd need to post the specifics of what you're typing in and what response you get.

Thanks so far: I shall get back to this post with examples, if I understand correctly a TAR is not a guarantee for successful installation?

lliam in Downloads look for the wagon wheel icon palemoon, right click make link and drag it to your desktop, click on it and Palemoon opens. You can change the icon, right click, Properties.

We have the menulibre program to change the menu entries. This should do the trick for you. You probably need to know the path to the executable, but that should be easy to find using  the whereis command in a terminal (e.g. whereis palemoon or whereis thunderbird). The important thing is that you need to know the exact name and it is also case-sensitive;)

Hey JOHAN, great solution! Now I know about that wagon wheel, I shall be more adept in the future. Obviously your tip worked and I have Pale Moon [much to my relief] as a desktop icon and it works perfectly! Thanks again.  P.S. I moved the extracted pale moon folder into another location out of downloads and reran this and [of course] it works [deleted the other link]. :)
To add to that I had installed thunderbird via the sofware manager and created a launcher in the panel for it so it is now just a 'button' on my panel which works fine by me. Now if ther are any tips for turning that Pale Moon desktop icon into a launcher button? Well treid it out, new launcher added to panel, added new item to its 'actions' pointing to the Pale Moon directory and then the wagon wheel and success! I now have both pale Moon and a launcher button for it on my panel.  ;D

Hi lliam53,

Pretty easy: first create a new launcher button on the panel and in its properties enter the path to the Pale Moon executable file (can be found using the same method I gave in my previous post above).  ;)

Don't forget to use the forum's Search function with appropriate search terms -- it's amazing how many questions have already been answered in this forum!  :o
