[SOLVED]Speaker recognized but no sound from Speaker
« on: April 18, 2020, 03:38:06 am »
I'm a newbie to Peppermint and Linux. I'm receiving no sound from speaker. I've tried many solutions from forum, but none seems to be working. In the pavecontrol, output device section I see:
"Port:Line Out(plugged in)"

I've checked the speakers with my phone and they work fine. Please help.
Here is a screenshot of pavucontrol:

Try opening a terminal type in  alsamixer. Hit enter then press f6 and toggle down to HD- Audio generic and hit enter. at the bottom of the columns, change the mm's to 00's and add volume using the up arrow on your keyboard. Move from column to column using the side arrows. Here's a shot of what my setup looks like, The rear mic is not shown.

If that doesn't work, let us know.
What was I thinking?

My front port does not work, so I cannot plug in headphone in the front audio jack but I've tried plugging the headphones in the rear audio jack but it doesn't work.

try loading up another distro too just to rule out a peppermint specific issue, mint xfce for example. running it off a live usb should be enough to test it

Should I buy an usb audio card or a usb bluetooth adapter because my speaker also has bluetooth connectivity?
Which one has a better chance of working?

Hi mayank9018,

Ideally you would test each device (before purchasing anything) using your own hardware. As this is often not possible, I would suggest making a short list of several usb audio cards and several usb bluetooth adapters. Then go online and do a little research, such as reading what the manufacturers say about supporting linux (unfortunately that is often quickly finished since so many totally ignore linux) and then do some searches (with DuckDuckGo, Google or whatever you prefer) using search terms that include the card/adapter make and model as well as "linux compatibility" or Ubuntu and see what you find. This is frequently what we would do and I suggest you do it as well. There are surely reports that you can find this way to help you make a decision.  ;)

I've checked the speakers with my phone and they work fine. Please help.

Did you test the cable too or just bluetooth from the phone?

It works both the ways-with cable and Bluetooth.
