Tried partition editing, grub won't install (SOLVED)
« on: April 12, 2020, 11:18:30 pm »
Hi.   I have a windows 10 and peppermint 10 on separate discs at least.   Running from a live usb, I type "sudo grub-install /dev/sda" , the output is 2 lines: "Installing for i386-pc platform" and below that,  "grub-install error: failed to get canonical path of '/cow'". Is there some way that I can get back with Windows and Peppermint installations, or can I only make backups of  the home directory and the Windows personal folders using the live usb to navigate, and do fresh installs?  It will take forever to reinstall the apps in both systems, so I want to make sure that i have no choice.

It might be easier while in the live version to open mozilla or firefox, and do a search for boot repair in Ubuntu 18.04. You should be able to find a site with download instructions for boot repair and usage. It's very simple.
What was I thinking?
