Problems with mic and camera in FB on P 9
« on: April 24, 2020, 09:59:57 am »
Hello Peppermint people. This is a relatively new problem, just haven't addressed it until now. I very seldom use my laptop for video chatting but when I try to I prefer that it works. I was able to use the camera and mic in P 7 but since I upgraded the laptop to P 9, they don't work in FB. I can record my voice in Audacity and my camera works in Cheese. I've tried using these in other 18.04 distros on the laptop and they don't work there either. I booted a live version of P 7 and they do work in it. So I'm assuming it's a kernel problem. I did boot into the default kernel, but that didn't work either. How far back in kernels can I try without running into problems in P 9? Anything else I can try?

I won't be too much help, as my desktop has no cameras in my monitors... but gucview was what controlled my mini-laptop's camera... before I deleted it...

try installing codecs etc by running

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install guvcview vlc ffmpeg

then try and see if it works in guvcview. you can also use this website to test it in a browser
https://www.onlinemictest.com/webcam-test/

also check any popup blockers that might be preventing it from loading
For wallpapers ive made you can download them here

Hy rayzer, thanks for the reply. Those were the first things I looked into and the problem persists. My normal browser is Slimjet which is based on Chrome but I have also tried Chrome, Chromium, Brave and Firefox. In Firefox I received a message that javascripts has to be enabled but I don't know how to do that or am sure I want to.  I mentioned that in P7 it works but that was only in Firefox and only using a private window but a private window in P 9 doesn't work.
What was I thinking?
