What Can I Do To Help?
« on: February 15, 2020, 10:25:09 am »
Hello fellow Pepperminters,

As the title asks, what can I do to help?  I know this is a rough time, here at Peppermint.  We lost a great leader, a good man and a friend.  I, for one, and I know I am not alone, don't want to see Peppermint go away.  We all know this happens often.  Very few distros get saved, Endeavour is one that has.  So, I want to know what can I do?  I sent a message to Kendall and asked about the future of Peppermint.  He told me a maintainer is needed.  That kind of job is well out of my realm of knowledge but I did create a video stating Peppermint is looking for a maintainer.  PCTLC followed suit and he made a video. I think we have a nibble but we will see.  In the meantime, how can I help?  I am not about to jump ship and hop into another distro.  Peppermint fits me like my Peppermint jacket, perfectly.  I try to help out where I can in the forum, with what feeble skills I have.  I have started to make short tutorials, focusing on Peppermint, on my channel, hopefully keeping Peppermint in the mind of the user.  Everyone who comes to a stream of mine will see me either in my Peppermint shirt or jacket.  My YouTube image has the Peppermint icon in it.  Mark was instrumental in his support of me and my channel.  It may sound silly but finding Linux and finding Peppermint has changed my life in a way that is hard to explain.  So, to all you Trusted Users, what can I do to help?

Just answer what you can, when you can. That's all I do. Share your experiences you have whilst using Peppermint. I can set it up for people NVIDIA, AMD, INTEL Drivers anti screen tearing, multiple monitors, grub configurations, home folder partitions on other hard drives, customizing desktop etc. When it comes to coding, wish I could, though I don't learn things from reading I'm a visual person and need to see it done live. Hence why YouTube was born.  ;D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

Thanks, Slim.  I'm visual, too.  I started to do quick tutorials based on some of the posts in the forum, because like you, I am visual, too, and I bet most in the forum are, too.

Just hopping in to answer a bit when you can is very helpful right now @stevesveryown. My coding skills are non-existent as I just never found an interest in learning. When I can't recollect what the answer to a forum question entails, I use the !p search on the forum to see what @PCNetSpec has had to say about the issue in the past...

If you didn't know we had a !p search function on our forum?

I really should add a:-

!p search term query to the whiskermenu to search this forum.

Now you can search this forum by typing
!p search term
in the whiskermenu search box

I had forgotten about it too @stevesveryown, but was reminded of it whilst trying to answer a help request recently... certainly makes it easier to find @PCNetSpec's guidance

I'd also like to help the Peppermint project.
I'm a JavaScript / Frontend web developer but I also know a bit of Python. I'd love to help keep the Peppermint vision going in any way I can even if it's bug fixing.

Thank you vinlacey,

Once we have it all fully worked out with regard to Who, What, When, Where and how we well be in touch to talk further.

In the mean time, if you can help out with any questions on the Forums, please dive right in, like a lot of the people in this thread already are and to those - THANK YOU as well

No worries zeb! It would be an honour to be part of the team.

For now, I wil keep an eye on the peppermintos public repos in GitHub to see if there are any issues with which I could help.
