password fail (SOLVED)

Lenovo T480s running P10
the extra level of security was setup at installation so at initial boot-up i have a boot password then login password.

the laptop shutdown due to low power on battery.
i connected ac adapter and booted up.
i entered the 'boot' password but it failed so i re-entered the password.
again, it reported 'failed password'.

the error '60 seconds going to sleep' came up so i powered the laptop off, waited 10 seconds and powered up.
now all i get is a repeat of the above scenario.

i have been able to get to a terminal input type 'unix command  input' that states the following:

No key available with this passphrase.
cryptosetup (nvme0n1p3_crypt): cryptosetup failed, bad password or options?
Please unlock disk nvme0n1p3_crypt:
*****************************************************************
how do i get around this? i don't need the extra level of security so it can be removed.

Did you encrypt the drive?

thanks for responding.

yes i did and now realize i should not have.
this is a fairly new install so i am ready for the worst.
if a new install is the easiest route then so be it.

what do you think?

The encryption makes it much more difficult to get access if it's been corrupted, unless you have the right kind of backups. It might be easier to reinstall...

ok fine.
was not aware this would possibly cause problems.
maybe someday an easy recovery will be an alternative.
