« on: March 29, 2020, 11:44:07 am »
Hi.

Every time I login the keyring windows show up asking me to enter password.
That happens once when I login.

Is there any way to avoid it?

Thank you.

Hi Makis_best,

That's a Gnome thing.  If you don't enter a password and just hit enter it should not pop up again.  You may get a warning about not using a password but just hit ok.

Hi makis_best,

Did you enter a password the first time this was asked? If so, then not entering one later will not work. Also what do you mean "Chrome is not working correct"?? Tell us what is happening/not happening or what behavior by Chrome indicates to you that it is not working correctly?

Regards,

Hi makis_best,

I got this help from PCNetSpec ages ago when I was having the same issue.  See if his advice helps you here.  He gave me a link from Ubuntu.

[T]here are a lot of people happily running Peppermint ICE which hasn't been receiving ANY updates for a while now .. and I personally would STILL consider that MUCH more secure than any version of Windows with up-to-date AV/Anti-malware ;)

If I press unlock with insert my password the window dose not go away.
If I press cancel window disappear but after that chrome not show
my extensions and dose not remember any off my saved passwords.

The point is way every time I login to my season I have to insert and that password.
There no way to remember it?

Hi makis_best,

Then try this trick from PCNetSpec:
Quote
Try this...

CLOSE CHROME and CHROMIUM

Run

Code: [Select]
mv -v ~/.local/share/keyrings ~/.local/share/keyrings-old
now REBOOT.

Once rebooted, open Chrome/Chromium, and if prompted for a keyring password LEAVE IT BLANK, it'll b*tch about unsafe storage but just continue.

See, if that helps you. ;)

That's terrific, makis_best.  Actually that solution came from our late and beloved friend,  Mark Greaves (PCNetSpec).  I take no credit for it.  What I do know, makis_best, is that that GNOME keyring thing sure can be a pain in the tuchis!  I'm glad you've rid yourself of it. :)

I know that this has been (SOLVED), but for those out there wishing to learn more about keyring and why it is used, then you can read this recent article:)

Yes, you're right, Slim.  There is another side to this story.  The virtue of the keyring is that it helps protect Chrome and Chromium.  It's like amping up the security of Chrome or Chromium to that of the security of a Chromebook.  It makes Chrome and Chromium even more secure and private than it would be by default. ;)
