Wifi problems on MacBook Air
« on: March 27, 2020, 11:25:38 am »
I installed peppermint 10 last night on my late 2008 MacBook Air, and I got wifi to work... sometimes. I could get it to work if it connected on its own while booting, but I could not get it to connect manually, and if it didn't automatically connect I had to reboot, and hope it connected.

in trying to fix this issue, I found a similar topic from 2018, and ran this

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install dkms bcmwl-kernel-source
in terminal, thinking it might fix it, but it made the problem worse, now it won't connect at all.   >:(

and unfortunately since its a MacBook Air, no ethernet option.

Outputs from terminal:

Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network
*- network

Hello Once again cmmcarthy2002,

I'm most definitely not the wifi expert here, So hopefully others will chime in. In order to help us help you, let me ask you for some more info first please give us the information requested in this pinned post.

Rather than sending your terminal output to imgur though, please use the forum tools located inside the message composition box above

Specifically, use the # button just overhead of the laughing and angry emoticons. then copy and paste your output there

No worries @cmccarthy2002, I fixed them for you this time around... well looks like I need to edit again... nothing jumps out at me, but I'm not the wifi expert in the group.

Just for future reference, do you use a mouse? or are you using your touchpad to copy & paste?

I use the trackpad, mostly because I don't have a bluetooth mouse, and my MacBook Air only has one USB port.  :(

 ;)

just pondering how to advise you to best copy & paste directly from the terminal to the forum's composer window... I've never owned anything apple and I disable my laptop's touchpads really quickly... so I suppose you use keyboard shortcuts?

Still need another forum moderator to step in, while I search for related posts...

actually, I usually use keyboard shortcuts, but the "command" button seems to function as the start button with peppermint, and I just haven't figured it out yet.  :P

the reason I had such a hard time with the terminal outputs is because my other computer is a Mac book pro, running Mac OS, and the text document I added to the flash drive was formatted weird, so it was kinda guesswork. LOL
