« on: September 05, 2014, 10:21:10 pm »
i want to only use libre writer but keep only that in my menu but it seems when i remove the other applications from libre office
nothing will work unless i have all of it, i really have no use for items like libre math, and things like that. is there anyway to do that?

Hi iamesperambient

I can only think when you'r e removing the individual components your removing some shared packeges that writer requires, so all I can suggest is remove everything then re-install writer on it's own

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice

then

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-writer

Good luck

Graeme

What's the status at the moment do you have the full Office suite installed ? and if so what happens if you go to Menu>Office>Libreoffice Writer ?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm just trying to get a clear picture of what's going on :)

Hi iamesperambient, how's it going?  I see what you mean.  I've never had LibreOffice on this machine.  I use Google Drive as my office app.  I did just install LibreOffice Writer as a stand alone word processor to test. That really doesn't work very well at all. There is FAR too much other stuff installed to call LibreOffice Writer stand alone.   If you are only looking for a  word processor.  Maybe you should try Abiword.  It is only about 48MiB.  Its in the repositories.
Code: [Select]
apt install abiword -y

Try this:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt purge libreoffice*
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install libreoffice-writer
now what happens if you run this in a terminal:
Code: [Select]
libreoffice --writer

Does anyone remember Microsoft Works?  It was an office package where all the programs where bundled together, when you created a spreadsheet or word file you did not open a different program. Libreoffice has always reminded me of this, I don't know if the parts were ever designed to work apart from each other.

I hope you do find a solution to your question :)

Hi iamesperambient It really sounds like Abiword will fit the bill.  Good luck  ;).
