Peppermint 32 bit cannot be installed on a laptop (10 years old) on the following hardware

Delock 62495 Konverter IDE 44 Pin > mSATA mit 2.5″ Rahmen (7 mm) with
Transcend 256GB SATA III 6GB/S MSA230S mSATA SSD 230S SSD TS256GMSA230S

The following error was:

ata1.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x40)
ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5)
ata1: SRST failed (errno=-16)
some moreā€¦
ata1: reset failed, giving up

on that hardware server 2008 or Windows xp could be installed without any problem, also PCLinuxOS with some problems (Screen, mouse, touchpad )

How can that problem be solved, the internet could not help !

Hi MelZee,

It would help us to have some more output related to your computer. If you can start a live USB session of PeppermintOS, open a terminal window and enter the following command:

Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz
Then copy the output that is produced and paste it into your next posting here. Also: have you searched our forum (using the Search function) to look up the make and model of your laptop to see if anyone has successfully installed PeppermintOS on such a machine?

Hi Slim,
I can't start a live USB- or DVD session with the mSATA and Delock converter mounted in the laptop.
The same error message as above appears. Without the mSATA built in I can start a live session working.
Other Linuxe like MX Linux, Linux Mint and some others generate the same error message, only the very old PCLinuxOS can be installed.
I seems to be a driver problem MX Linux said no block device found.

The log file with the  installation on a normal 2,5 " HDD:

Peppermint works good, but slow with this hardware, the mSATA would significantly increase the speed (my installation of server2008 and windows xp are the proof)

Hi Slim,

What is the solution of my problem, so many newer Linuxe have this behaviour,
so I can't be the only one Peppermint-User of the world.

By the way Fedora 17 can be installed, Fedora 30 not

Best regards

MelZee

Don't know if it solve your problem, but IMHO it worth a try:
While running live system, before installation, remove dmraid (if persists):
Code: [Select]
sudo apt purge dmraid

Hi Howling Wolf,

Please read my second post carefully, with the new hardware built in I cannot start a live session.
I think a driver for the hardware is missing; I have tried to install more than 5 newer Linuxe; always the same error.
Without a mSATA and Delock the live system boots up and ... the old Server 2008 and Windows XP can be installed on mSATA...and works fast !

I don't have a legacy IDE 2,5"  SATA, mSATA and Delock is much cheaper and the mSATA can be used for another device ( if necessary)

MelZee

There is no problem with Linux installations. There was an error of mine.
All my old laptops did not recognize such big mSATA as 256GByte. I replaced it with mSATA of 128GByte and lower and all the
LINUXE could be installed without an error and worked as I expected.

The problem was sitting in front of the laptop, this sometimes happens  :) ;D

Hope it can help other users !

(Problem Exists Between Computer And Keyboard)

In my early computing days was frequently combined with ID 10 T errors

(remove spaces and re-read)

Also thanks for remembering to mark this (SOLVED)
