FN keys not working for screen brightness (SOLVED)
« on: February 16, 2020, 12:30:40 pm »
SOLUTION:
In Power manager settings>General>Handle display brightness , make sure this is set to 'on'.
  >:(  ;D

I recently managed to fix screen brightness not working via the fn keys from following a suggested fix on itsfoss blog, where you create a config file the backlight.
I did this fix on 2 different laptops, that both had the issue after installing peppermint 10. It worked, but now today all of a sudden it is not working again on both machines. I tried the itsfoss fix again to no avail.
The slider still appears when the keys are pressed but the brightness or slider dont move when keys pressed.

Hope someone can help
Cheers

You've looked inside Bios to make sure Fn Keys are activated, or enabled? When they are disabled on my Lenovo Yoga 500, I only have to push the F11 or F12 to alter brightness, without having to push the Function key. Unfortunately I have not got the first laptop you showed. In your Lenovo should be F2 to get into Bios just before the Lenovo logo comes up. Sorry I can't be of anymore help. I'm sure there is someone on here though, that knows more than I.  :) Although you can right click the battery in Panel and alter brightness that way.

Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

Ah a mistake anyone can make, even though it is set to on by default. Never mind glad you got it going and thank you for marking it SOLVED.
