It is definitely the Peppermint System 10.0.0.4 which is stopping it as I have just installed it and thinking about it don't think we need it.
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

Didn't we just do a Peppermint System update recently?  Is this what you're saying, clatterfordslim?  That our most recent system update is what's probably causing the conflict?

Yep the Peppermint-System 10.0.0.4 is stopping the right click desktop launcher. There is no problem in just upgrading the Peppermint Settings Panel as far as I can tell. Originally before we updated to Peppermint-System 10.0.0.4 we had 10.0.0.2 but that has disappeared and you cannot downgrade to 10.0.0.1 that was originally in Pepp 10 before the respin. So I say get rid of Peppermint-System 10.0.0.4 as it is conflicting. There was nothing wrong with 10.0.0.2 and that has disappeared altogether.

I don't know what is missing from Peppermint-System 10.0.0.4 as in script wise. Obviously something is, as right clicking and trying to create a launcher does not work, yet everything else with the right click does.  ;D

If creating a launcher after a right click on the desktop does not work (yet), you could also perform a right click on any app in the whisker menu and add a shortcut to the desktop - and then edit the .desktop file with xed to change the command, the caption and the icon.

For example the command to start firefox with youtube is:
Code: [Select]
firefox https://youtube.com

Yeah but, since this update and yes you're right by doing that
Code: [Select]
firefox %U https://www.youtube.com/?gl=GB
But the way I see it is that this Peppermint-System 10.0.0.4 needs addressing, as this has turned into a bug. I've got a feeling that something is missing from it's script and it's only this update to Peppermint-System 10.0.0.4 that is causing it and would be nice if I could read it's scripting or at least have Peppermint-System 10.0.0.2, the original on the ISO which is hidden away and cannot be gotten at to compare it with.  ;D

Try the following:

sudo apt install gnome-panel --no-install-recommends

And see if the functionality returns to normal.

With all of that deleted, it has overwritten the ability to make or create a Launcher in my view.

Well done Kendall thanks for that.  :D I was looking at the original scripts of Peppermint System 10.0.0.0 and 4 trying to see what was missing.

The "offending file" that was removed via the peppermint-system update was at some point extracted from gnome-panel. I attempted to check everywhere I could to see if it was actually in use anywhere and I didn't see anything. I guess I missed this one.

Tried backing off to a previous kernel and no deal ... still no right click LAUNCHER dialogue box.
Have all the shortcuts I need for now and the conceivable future and any others I can create on one of my Linux Mint computers.
The URL shortcut icons I create on Linux Mint 19.3 work perfectly well on Peppermint 10.

sudo apt install gnome-panel --no-install-recommends

Tried the above command and it WORKED.
The CREATE LAUNCHER right click dialogue box re-appeared on my desktop  like a long lost friend. 8)
Thanks Kendall.

Tried the above cure on my other Peppermint laptop which had the same problem and it worked like a charm. 8)
A tip of the hat to Kendall on this one.
