[SOLVED] Whether to install Peppermint on friend's Fujitsu Laptop
« on: September 02, 2014, 11:32:30 am »
I'm trying to install Peppermint 5 on my friend's Windows XP laptop and I'm running into issues when trying to run the live usb images.

Peppermint 5 live usb image shows broad stripes across the screen as though the video card driver is not happy. Wireless networks are detected, but if I try to connect the system locks up.

Peppermint 3 live usb image does not have the video issues of Peppermint 5 and all appears to work fine until you attempt to connect the wireless. Again my wireless network is recognised and I can input the wireless key. The wireless symbol circles and then the system locks up.

(The proprietary drivers list is for the modem and unfortunately does not offer either video or wireless drivers).

I'm aware that problems which show up on live images may not actually be a problem if the image is installed to the hard drive.

What advice could you give me as to whether to install Peppermint on my friend's laptop and which version I should try?
In my previous experience, either something works or it does not. I've not been in the situation where both the screen and wireless partially work.

Thanks

Thanks.

To make it easier to collect the output from the commands, I decided to have a go at installing alongside Windows XP rather than deleting Windows. The screen is now working normally and so is the wireless. It must have been something about the live USB environment that the hardware didn't like.
