How to change the panel 'style'
« on: January 14, 2020, 12:27:02 am »
Hey guys!

I'm new here so first of, nice to meet you!

I've had some linux distros for some years now but truth be told I fell upon Peppermint about 3 days ago.

I generally like it, and it's super fast i have to say, however i do miss some of the good old panel styles i had. I've found online that you can make you panel look like pretty much anything, i'd like to make it like the elementary OS panel (it looks a bit like the panel that Macs have if that helps) - anyhow i've failed till now and still have the default grey one that is shown at the bottom of the page.

Can anyone help with this?

There is the xfce panel switch app.  Take a look at that.

I'm constantly fiddling with my panels - different panel settings for different machines, for different purposes, et cetera.

One can make Peppermint panels look any way they wish. It's akin to being a graffiti artist; limited only by the quality and availability of the 'spray paint'; and, the steadiness of one's mousing fingers  :))

Just make sure to backup your Peppermint defacement(s) when you're done for the day. That way you can restore your 'work of art' if you get too adventuresome on the morrow.

Thanks guys!

i'll give it a shot.

Love the freedom of customization of peppermint though, it's hard to get around a bit, i was sort of used to ubuntu for a long time i guess.

Would you happen to be asking about the panel at the bottom of Elementary and resembles Mac?  If so, it's Plank.

I'd personally go with Docky, as Plank in XFCE and other Distributions has a bug, where if you fiddle around in the panel settings with Plank activated, it thinks the panel is a App. The weird thing is it all started happening the latter part of 2016, even in Ubuntu Mate which has Plank for it's different environments. The only OS that does not have the bug is Elementary OS. Weird that it's never been fixed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/plank/+bug/1733078?comments=all
Docky is a good one with lots of customization, plus it's been around since Adam fell out of the sky. It never falters.

You can install it by opening a Terminal and copy and paste
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install docky

You'll find it in
Code: [Select]
Menu/Accessories
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)
