Cloud storage: Copy.com

If you are running out of Dropbox space, you can try copy.com

You get 15 GB space to start and 5 GB for every referral (up to 5 referrals), with apps for Linux and Android I am covered.

There is a great tutorial of the service http://www.webupd8.org/2014/06/install-copycom-client-in-ubuntu-or.html

My referral link is: https://copy.com?r=vEWnoM

Is this something that anyone here is interested in?

The Linux app for copy.com is not as polished and seamless as Dropbox.

I had to pause and unpause it to get it to upload files I had copied to the Copy folder. Might end up just using this as cloud storage for music.

I use it myself, but only occasionally (not set to autostart), I've never had any issues with it .. that said I can't remember the last time I started it so maybe they've become less reliable, or maybe you've just been unlucky.

I've been using Copy, I've got 15+5GiB free.  I installed it via a ppa.  It seems to work really well.  My one gripe with it is you can only purchase more space with a credit card.  No PayPal option or bank transfer for us in the Euro Zone.  Its a real shame because the price is certainly right  :'(.

Thanks Andy,  I do hope you find a way to purchase more space.  Maybe they decide to accept alternate forms of payment.

Andy .. have you tried contacting them and asking ?

Maybe it's something they'd consider.

I'll drop them a line and see if they reply.  The way they have it set up is daft.  They produce a very nice looking product at a price that is very attractive.  They then limit their customer base because of restrictive payment methods.  It is very counter intuitive  :-\.

Lot of tech geniuses with no business experience out there .. maybe it's just never crossed their minds.

Probably not, but you never know.

The Linux app for copy.com is not as polished and seamless as Dropbox.

I have 25GB @ Copy.com

Personally, I prefer using the web UI.  It rawks.

For audio, I just click a file, my player pops up, and it streams beautifully, e.g. no reason to download it, per se.

Maybe Dropbox works the same.  Never put any audio files over there.

Anyway, I'm totally pleased with Copy.com ;)

Thanks for the replies guys. I will probably migrate over completely to copy from Dropbox at some point.

How did you get 101GB free on dropbox ? .. get a million referrals, or do you know some trick I don't ?

I remember certain Samsung phones came with a free paid Dropbox subscription, that might be the case here.

I have 13.6 GB on Dropbox. Started with 2 GB, got a bonus for tweeting and for liking on Facebook. Got an additional bonus for enabling auto uploading of photos I take on my phone. Got the rest via referrals (500 MB each) from when I did PC lessons. I would make sure to ask customers if they had a backup solution and refer them to Dropbox.

My main reason for considering copy.com is because of the space that my friends are running low on. I have enough space in Dropbox at this point in time.

yeah, it was something like 50GB for free, I forget which phone it was though. plus i went through the whole tweeting/liking/sharing malarky.  then out of the blue sometime later I get an email saying that I'd been upgraded to a power user or something like that.

anyways, if anyone wants any free, space for app/project hosting etc. let me know, I'm not likely going to use all that space. lol  8)
