[solved] Peppermint4 - disappeared panel HELP
« on: August 31, 2014, 05:04:54 pm »
Hi,

A netbook running Peppermint4 was "misused" in a way that made the bottom panel disappear permanently... so when the OS starts there is no way to access anything: not the system Menu, not the launch icons, nothing.

I am not physically in contact with the machine, so I'm unable to just toy around and fix it by accident... I have to give VERY simple and exact instructions to my parents (the current users of the pc, who are 100% computer illiterate).

Does anyone know what they might have done to kill the start panel? And how they could fix it?

Extra Info:
As read on some website I managed to have them open a Terminal window and try the to run the "xfce4-panel" command but it says "not found" so I guess it is not the panel I need :P
Another symptom: doing ALT+F2 the Run panel does not appear, while doing CTRL+ALT+T opens the Terminal no problem.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

What happens if they open a terminal (Ctrrl+Alt+T) and run:
Code: [Select]
lxpanelctl restart
or if that returns nothing:
Code: [Select]
nohup lxpanel -p Peppermint

Remember Linux commands ARE case sensitive, so that's a capital P in Peppermint
