Intel video graphics driver (SOLVED)
« on: December 26, 2019, 12:14:18 pm »
Hello team, I am a first-time user of “peppermint” and it is very good OS. I appreciate the good work by the team. However, the major problem is with the “intel video driver”. I am unable to fix the problem with the video and lagging while scrolling in the browser and watching videos. This is very annoying and irritating. Could you please help me to fix the problem?

Code: [Select]
OS: Peppermint 10 Ten x86_64
Host: 20236 Lenovo G500
Kernel: 5.0.0-37-generic
Uptime: 10 hours, 10 mins
Packages: 1759 (dpkg)
Shell: bash 4.4.20
Resolution: 1366×768, 1366×768
DE: LXDE
WM: Xfwm4
WM Theme: Arc-Red-Xfwm4
Theme: Adwaita [GTK3]
Icons: Adwaita [GTK3]
Terminal: x-terminal-emul
CPU: Intel i5-3230M (4) @ 3.200GHz
GPU: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphi
Memory: 1822MiB / 7842MiB

I tried some trial and errors but nothing fixed my problem :(

However, I observed one thing. I think in GNOME DE there was no problem. May be I am wrong. Please help me.

Hello unixlinuxforum, welcome to the Forum. Always had problems with Intel drivers in the past, luckily I have a fix. Below is a fix for you that works through out any Linux Distro running Intel.

Open a Terminal and type or copy and paste
Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
This creates a directory and text document file.

Next copy and paste the whole lot all at once into Terminal. Once done reboot your computer and screen tearing should be gone.

Code: [Select]
echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Intel Graphics"\n Driver "Intel"\n Option "AccelMethod" "sna"\n Option "TearFree" "true"\nEndSection' | sudo tee /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

This gets added to the text file originally created then runs automatically at startup in the background. Your computer will run tear free, remember to reboot system though after adding this work around.  ;)
