Nice review where the reviewer discusses using Peppermint on an old core 2 duo "dumpster find" laptop. he compares contrast performance against a modern windows desktop and the old laptop fares ok for his use case.

He then installs Peppermint on a "newer" I5 laptop and gives a nice review.

I'm actually considering picking up a Lenovo 5 laptop to set up peppermint for use with my projector for slides shows; what success rate have folks had with getting laptop external displays to work?

Yep great review, that's not to say there aren't things I disagree with .. for example "installing software is where Linux falls short of Windows" (around 10:45), sure Windows binary executable installers (.exe) may seem 'easier' but that's usually just because it's what most are 'used to', it's not 'better' (in fact it leaves you open to infection), and in reality it's not 'easier' either (having to search the web for the .exe rather than just open the software manager).

And universal packages (though they have problems at the moment that rule them out FOR ME .. such as snaps ENFORCED updates, and theming issues) are hopefully going to overcome this soon (or could do if implemented correctly) .. in fact they'll easily be superior to Windows binary executable installers in pretty much every way I can think of.

ease of use (about equal)
sandboxed
multiple version control
clean uninstall (nothing left behind)
automatically updatable (though I REALLY wish this was a sysadmin choice rather than software developer enforced)

The future's bright, the future's Brexit Linux :)

I found him really quite annoying, incorrect facts and reading from a poorly written script - could not watch it all.

and I guess I am just a miserable ol fart - cos where were the funny bits ?

Like many YouTube reviewers he is not always accurate and kind of bounces around. >:(

Unlike many he does comment on his results and impressions over a period of use rather than just "let me install this and fumble around it pointing out things as I find them" type of review one often finds.

I'm a old fart too so the humor kind of goes over my head. :-\

Overall though i think he gives a positive view of Peppermints ability to revive old systems and some of it's features. While not always on point on specifics I prefer this type of review rather than the aforementioned "drive byes" or the "which distro is better" nonsense.

The problem with most reviews IMHO is that content creators are in such a hurry to get clicks that they rush to post anything they think will get hits. Even non video reviews like the ones on  FOSS or Forbes usually are along the lines of "Distro XYZ makes old systems fly" or some other "hook".

It's Gen Z humor. We aren't supposed to understand it. Example: Letterkenny  https://is.gd/KiEvWl   ::)

As an end user that just wants to use an application for its intended purpose the method of install is unimportant as long as it functions properly. the issue I have seen with many SNAPS so far is that they are "broken" and do not install as the installer software can not locate missing pieces/dependencies. If there is an option to go with a repo version or a SNAP I presently stick with the repo but I can see the advantages of  "universal" compatibility that SNAPs may ultimately offer.

I cringed at this review, especially about exe files being easier. If only Windows users would just open their eyes a little more to actually see the harm they're doing to their systems, plus if they could actually see how bad their filing system actually is too. NTFS has to be the dumbest filing system on the planet? To think that I actually used to use this filing system and trust it whole heartedly, how blind was I? No doubt a lot of Linux migrators feel the same?  ;D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

one good thing about ntfs is that when transferring files from linux to say a usb theres no huge waiting times compared to ext4 or fat formatted drives. i have all my sticks on ntfs for that reason.
For wallpapers ive made you can download them here
