Change monitor resolution on Asus ET2400E
« on: August 29, 2014, 04:02:39 pm »
Hi to all,
I'm a new Linux user and the only problem I had after installing Peppermint is the resolution of my Asus ET2400E with a 23,6 inch full HD monitor 16:9.
Actually the monitor setting is 1280x1024 while the real one is 1920x1080.
Looking on web I tried to resolve making this xorg.conf file (located in /home/utente) but never was changed:

So that file is at
/home/utente/xorg.conf
?

Have you tried moving it to:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

and rebooting ?

OK, rename the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to something like xorg.conf.broken:
Code: [Select]
sudo mv -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.broken
Then REBOOT.

Once rebooted, see here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution#Adding_undetected_resolutions
for how to add an undetected resoultion

Hi karma,
thanks for your help.
I looked to the link instructions but when I write:

sudo xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_60.00"  173.00  1920 2048 2248 2576  1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync

the system reply:
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default

Had you any other way to try?

Try supplying the gamma info by manually setting it in your current resolution first, by running:
Code: [Select]
xrandr --output default --gamma 1:1:1 --mode 1280x1024
then adding your new modeline:
Code: [Select]
xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_60.00"  173.00  1920 2048 2248 2576  1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
then
Code: [Select]
xrandr --addmode default 1920x1080

Hi Karma,
first of all, thanks again for your support.
This is the terminal response:
xrandr --output default --gamma 1:1:1 --mode 1920x1080
xrandr: Gamma size is 0.
xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_60.00"  173.00  1920 2048 2248 2576  1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
X Error of failed request:  BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request:  140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request:  16 (RRCreateMode)
Serial number of failed request:  19
Current serial number in output stream:  19

If it may be useful this is the system reply typing xandr:
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 1280 x 1024, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1920 x 1080
default connected 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1280x1024      77.0*
   1920x1080      60.0
 1920x1080_60.00 (0x1cd)  173.0MHz
        h: width  1920 start 2048 end 2248 total 2576 skew    0 clock   67.2KHz
        v: height 1080 start 1083 end 1088 total 1120           clock   60.0Hz

Also, when I installed Peppermit, in order to resolve the black screen at the first reboot I had changed the GRUB configuration adding "nomodeset" after quiet splash string..

Thanks again,

Juri

Can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
lspci -vnn | grep VGA
jIf there's no output from that command, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
lspci -vnn | grep 8086

lsmod

Regarding kernel setting I'm new on Linux system, the only set I changed until now is the NOMODESET on Grub in order to avoid the black scrren on the first reboot after installation.
Howewer if you show me which parameter I must change I can try.

Thanks,

Juri

So you've added nomodeset as a kernel boot parameter ? .. have you made any other modifications ?

What's the contents of:
Code: [Select]
gedit /etc/default/grub
