Occasional Repo Issues
« on: December 01, 2019, 07:51:18 am »
Every now & then when i go to update it says something about a repository being unsecure and is disabled by default, just had it again but seems to have worked somewhat. Just re-ran the update and this is what i got. I remember having to muck around with the software sources the last time to fix it. Any idea how to get around it as i know the ubuntu repos are weird sometimes

Code: [Select]
rayzer@rayzer-XPS-13-9343 ~ $ sudo apt update
[sudo] password for rayzer:

Get:2 http://ie.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease [242 kB]

Hmm, I can't spot anything odd in there :-\
(at least nothing 'jumps out' at me .. I'll more fully test it's contents later)

Can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
for X in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list; do echo; echo; echo "** $X:"; echo; cat $X; done

[EDIT]

As this only happens 'occasionally', I'm wondering if this isn't at your end as much as at the Irish archive mirror end .. maybe try changing update mirrors.
(if you're not sure how, please ask, and I'll type up instructions ;))

Code: [Select]
** /etc/apt/sources.list.d/peppermint.list:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/peppermintos/p10-release/ubuntu bionic main
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/peppermintos/p10-release/ubuntu bionic main

i think its just something in the ubuntu repos itself and not really a peppermint issue, i had this before with ubuntu too so more likely that.

Yep, no problem there either .. if I were you I'd try a different update mirror.

ok so this is one of the common repo things i was on about, managed to capture it this time around. normal or what? once i accepted it i got a bunch of updates that werent there originally and the upgrade installed firefox and some kernel stuff. everything seems to be working as normal though :)

No idea why you're getting that .. I'm not.
(maybe because I'm using the GB archive)

But try running
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update --allow-releaseinfo-change
to allow the change .. the archive is still correct, so it must be a change at Ubuntu's end.

In future, can you copy/paste terminal output into a code box on this forum rather than taking a screenshot of the terminal .. text in screenshots isn't searchable, nor can a prospective responder copy/paste it themselves .. TIA :)

ok  i think ive managed to solve this issue once and for all, had the same thing on the respin.
once i refreshed the updates it asks me to enable a repo which adds a launchpad ppa, the update errors start after that.
once that happens i go back into synaptic and remove that ppa then close it and run the update again. then the problem seems to go away and i can update then.
the upgrade asks me install a new or keep an old version of sometihng so i keep the old version and it finally installs the upgrades :)

the ubuntu base is heap at the best of times but hopefully this wont come back
