OEM install, Not able to open install release - SOLVED
« on: November 30, 2019, 08:31:51 pm »
I installed Peppermint 10, did an OEM install, and now cannot open the Install Release when restarted.  Moved to the desktop, double click and nothing opens.  Click on the item in the menu, nothing opens.

Do you mean - there is no "oem-config-prepare" icon on the desktop ?

Have you read the release notes about that

there was nothing on the desktop when I restarted the computer, i moved it from the menu to the desktop.  clicking either does nothing.  This is a friends laptop, she allowed me to keep it until this issue is fixed.  Whenever we have updates or it asks for a  Password, it shows OEM in top, not the user name.   So this machine, running for 3 days, off at night is running wrong.

Yeah, read the release notes...
(there is a bug in the 64bit version where it doesn't place an oem-config-prepare icon on the desktop .. so you have to run it from the terminal)

Run:
Code: [Select]
oem-config-prepare
then reboot.

THEN you should be prompted to set up the primary account.

If you knew what username/password she wanted you probably shouldn't have done an OEM install .. that's for where you want the system to prompt to set up the account on first boot (ie. when shipping it to someone whos username/password you don't know (or can get) in advance.

I thank you, and the nice lady named Karen who owns this computer, Thank You very much, as she can now take her computer home and enjoy using Peppermint.  Entering in a copy and paste mode to the Terminal, and pressing enter, did the trick.  I restarted the computer and the install menu came up and I was able to go through it get her info entered.
Thank You
