Install software on Live OS (SOLVED)
« on: November 24, 2019, 04:26:06 am »
I currently test and try Peppermint using Live OS on a USB stick that created using UNetbootin and I reserved space to save files across sessions. The USB stick is 8GB in size and I reserved about 6GB.

I had tried to install Libreoffice snap. using snap install libreoffice. After install finish, the Libreoffice does not shown in the menu. However, after rebooting it shown well, but it does not work. How could I solve this issue?

Okay I'm a little confused .. as far as I know:-

a) a LiveUSB should be formatted as FAT32

b) if you want persistence, if must contain a persistence file

c) the maximum file size for FAT32 is 4GB

so how exactly have you added a 6GB persistence file ?

In any case, as it displays in the menu after a reboot I'd be more likely to think this is simply a problem with the snap than a problem with persistence (though I'm still baffled how you got 6GB).

Have you tried installing the latest LibreOffice as a .deb rather than as a snap ?
Code: [Select]
snap remove libreoffice
then
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libreoffice

I followed the official guide under Creating an Installation Medium section, regarding the use of UNetbootin but instead of 3072 MB as shown in the screen shot there, I set it 6250 MB in Space used to preserve files across reboots (Ubuntu only) field.

Hi saidbakr, you may have better luck doing a fresh install of Peppermint into a usb stick of maybe 32gb. That way you will be able to treat it as a full functioning system, of course it will be slower due to being used thru usb. Plus you'll also get some experience installing the system. Good luck.

Thank you very much. I just have tried the way that you described above i.e using PPA. It has been installed successfully and it works fine right now.
So did you try the .deb version of libreoffice ?

You have to go to the original post and click on Modify. Then add (SOLVED) to the end of the title, then save.
