[SOLVED] Proprietary Drivers
« on: November 18, 2019, 06:46:43 am »
Hello Peppermint Forms,

I have a new curb find and so I installed Peppermint 10 and all is working well OOTB.

OK so I checked additional drivers and noticed a proprietary driver for the wireless adapter.

OK since everything is working great is there any need to install the proprietary driver for the wireless adapter.

I'm not a purest however do prefer open source software over proprietary software being this is Linux.

Thanks  :)

My curb find.

If it's working .. leave as is, would be my advice :)

Too many people break stuff because they can't resist changing something that was working perfectly beforehand

Additional drivers is likely offering you a proprietary driver, but if the open source one in the kernel is working perfectly, why risk it .. at best you end up where you are already (and there's always the risk of achieving considerably less than the best outcome).

Hello PCNetSpec,

Yep kinda what I figured and why I asked for another opinion.

I've always given the open source driver a chance to see how it preforms.

Will leave it as it is using the open source driver.

Thanks  :)
