« on: November 16, 2019, 07:59:37 am »
Hi just bought a TP-link ac600 archert2u was told it would work with linux peppermint. cant find drivers for it. Can anyone point me in the right direction. The ones listed by TP-link seem to be outdated. Thanks

I take it the A600 is a USB wireless adapter ?

If so, can you unplug it .. wait a few seconds .. replug it .. then post the output from:
Code: [Select]
dmesg | tail -n 30
and
Code: [Select]
lsusb

Obviously to make posting the output easier, it's help if you can plug the device into your router with an ethernet cable :)

[EDIT]

WITH YOUR PC CONNECTED TO YOUR ROUTER WITH AN ETHERNET CABLE .. try this:-

Open a terminal and run these commands in sequence
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install git dkms build-essential
then
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/rtl8812au-1
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/rtl8812au-1
then
Code: [Select]
git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8812au-1.git
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/rtl8812au-1/rtl8812au-1
then
Code: [Select]
sudo ./dkms-install.sh
once that finishes, REBOOT.

Did wireless spring to life ?

If wireless now works, great STOP NOW.

If installing that driver did not work, let us know.

I'm only posting these uninstall instructions in case they become necessary later .. DO NOT use them yet.
Code: [Select]
cd ~/rtl8812au-1/rtl8812au-1
sudo ./dkms-remove.sh
sudo rm -rv ~/rtl8812au-1

Thanks for that . Everything worked you bute, but for some reason cant get any life out of the adapter. Pluged it into another desktop running peppermint with no response, rebooted into windows and indicator light on adapter light straight up. Even though it says its linux friendly maybe its linux version particular. Might have to take it back and get another breed of adaptor, their a bit scarce here in Aussie.

With it plugged into the Peppermint PC that you ran the above commands on .. what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
rfkill list
and
Code: [Select]
iwconfig
and
Code: [Select]
sudo iwlist scan
and
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network

It appears that this adapter only works with a lower kernel in the 2. range. If there is no work around as my kernel 4.15.0-70 what adapter would you suggest? Thanks

I've always used these for laptops (when going for USB wireless)
https://www.amazon.com.au/Edimax-Dual-Adapter-Black-N150-Nano/dp/B003MTTJOY
(Edimax EW-7811Un)

They're plug and go on Linux :)
