Hello,

I recently installed Peppermint 10 on my Asus E200HA (Intel Atom processor), as it was painfully slow with Windows 10.
So far, I dont have any issues with the performance, however, I'm unable to play videos from any of the streaming sites.
I tried multiple browsers (Chrome/Firefox/Chomium/Opera, etc.), but the issue is not resolved yet.

Here's my experience with video playback:
Upon pressing play button, there is a brief pause, and then the video plays as if it's a slideshow, moving 4 seconds at a time.

I've tried every possible solution from all the forums available over internet, but none had fixed the issue.
I was able to make youtube videos work on the same device with Linux Mint & Sugar On A Stick OS, however none of those tricks are working in Peppermint.

Appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction towards the fix.

Thank you!

If it seems to be just a browser issue, I use 2 different browsers that do not seem to be a problem.

The first one is Brave Browser using the "startpage" search engine.

Terminal Install instructions for Brave Browser: 64 bit only:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install curl

Code: [Select]
curl -s https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/brave-core.asc | sudo apt-key add -

Code: [Select]
UBUNTU_CODENAME=$( (grep DISTRIB_CODENAME /etc/upstream-release/lsb-release || grep DISTRIB_CODENAME /etc/lsb-release) 2>/dev/null | cut -d'=' -f2 )

Code: [Select]
echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/ bionic main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-release-bionic.list
Code: [Select]
sudo apt update

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install brave-browser brave-keyring

The second is "Slimjet" Browser using "duck duck go" search engine.

Scroll down until you see "Show All Platforms" and click on it and use the "Ubuntu & Debian" editions marked as ".deb" for use with Peppermint:

https://www.slimjet.com/en/dlpage.php

Hope this is of some small help and hoping it works for you.

Regards,

The Omen

Have you tried disabling/enabling hardware acceleration in your web browser ?

For Firefox, see "option 2" here
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hardware-acceleration-and-windowblinds-crash

Note to self:- If this doesn't work, maybe there's a way we can force the intel graphics driver instead of modesetting

Okay let's try a little experiment

BUT FIRST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LIVEUSB HANDY IN CASE YOUR SYSTEM DOESN'T BOOT AND YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE FILE WE'RE ABOUT TO CREATE.

Okay open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
gksudo /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.confwhen a BLANK file opens, make it read:-
Code: [Select]
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
EndSection
SAVE the file and exit the text editor.

REBOOT to test .. if the machine does boot, please post the output from:
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fzagain.

and let us know if video improved.

If the machine refuses to boot to a graphical desktop, either

a) Drop to a console from the login screen (Ctrl+Alt+F3), log in in text mode, then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.confthen
Code: [Select]
sudo reboot
or

b) Use the LiveUSB to delete the
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
file .. then reboot.

Hi giftsonpm,

When asked for a password you must then type in your user (=administrator) password. Note that you will not be shown output as you type in the password! Nevertheless it is being entered. Only after correctly entering the password will the text editor start.  ;)

Hi Slim,

Thanks for your response.
The problem was not with the password, but likely something to do with the default editor.
I was able to update the file using sudo nano, instead of gksudo.
However, the issue still remains even after the edit.

Are you up for trying a different version of Peppermint that has some tweaks specifically for cherrytrail CPU's ?
(may also sort out your audio)

If so, try this one
https://peppermintos.info/pm9r-testing/Peppermint-9-20190102-32bit-efi-amd64.iso
MD5: a1b0731db64976b62c23f299efcbb5cb

I know it's Peppermint 9, but if it performs well we can upgrade it to Peppermint 10 following this tutorial

I did write this iso as a bootable stick, but for some reason, it is not recognized during boot.
I had the same issue with Peppermint 10 installation, and had to disable Secure Boot.
However, the changes doesn't seem to have any effect with this image.

try the h264ify browser addon for firefox, may or may not help. id also try adding ublock origin to stop hidden stuff from loading on the sites youre trying to stream from.
For wallpapers ive made you can download them here
