Error: file /boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod [SOLVED]
« on: October 17, 2019, 04:12:42 pm »
After a long time I decided to built myself a new pc.

AMD Ryzen 5-3600 - B450 I Aorus Pro Wifi - 16Gb RAM - 500 Gb M2 SSD and a 750Gb 3,5" HDD

After installing PM10 it would not boot. I get the message:

Code: [Select]
error:file /boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod not found

I did some research, but couldn't find a workable solution so far. Is there anybody out there who has a solution for this issue?

Thank you in advance.

No, I used the 64 bit version.

But .... during boot up of the live usb, right at the beginning, a black screen briefly mentions something like:
Code: [Select]
unknown chipset 000000x0

Isn't this still the downside of Linux that it isn't working yet with the latest hardware, gpu's and gsu's available? Because the kernel used in a distro hasn't the latest support for those mentioned?

Are you booting this in UEFI mode ?

Can you boot the LiveUSB and post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo fdisk -l
and
Code: [Select]
blkid

I disconnected the hard drive, than the PC did boot up. I reconnected the hard drive, now everything functioned as it should.

Thank you very much for your responses.
