Hi All,
This is my first post in the forum and actually my first involvement in a distro forum.
A bit of background I have been a long time Mac user (since 2009) and although aware of Linux did not have much interest. This changed earlier this year where after a bit of a career switch I found a job as a trainee developer abd was expected to use Ubuntu at work. This actually was not a massive issue as I was fairly familiar with the terminal and had a fairly powerful work machine so had no issues at all.
However, I caught the distro bug and started to investigate ways to test and try new distros. I did a fair bit of hopping using Virtual Box (Kali, CentOS etc) but didnt really like the virtual experience and was looking for another computer to run a 'clean' install on. Given my budget I eventually found an Acer Aspire ES11-131 (2 GB RAM, and 32 GB eMMc).
Given the specs were not great I started looking into lighweight distros that i could try to use to maximise performance and came across Peppermint. It seemed to tick all the boxes, fast, light but familiar enoough with the Ubuntu base.
Long story short I managed to install it after some complex booting issues (Acer does not make switching from Windows easy!) and the results are fantastic! The booting speed, for a machine this size, is increible and so afr the simplicity, speed and colour of the desktop environment is excellent.
In short, even in the event I upgrade I may have found my new distro for life and I just wanted to express my thanks for all the people involved in craeting and maintaining it to such an increible standard!
Keep up the good work all
