MuseScore(Flathub): how to use
« on: October 12, 2019, 03:44:54 pm »
To get the latest version of MuseScore (Synaptic has only version 2.1 and the most recent version is 3.2)
I downloaded the MuseScore(Flathub) which is the latest MuseScore version.
Although I have not the foggiest idea what Flathub means, I managed somehow to
get it running and made a test score.
But when I navigate to the folder where that test score is saved I see some Archive(Application/zip) symbol and I have to
specify which program I will use to open the score. I have set MuseScore as default but it still displays that same "Archive" symbol.
How can I change this into the MuseScore symbol?

Can you give us the name of the file (including any extension) ?

The name of the MuseScore file (if that is what you mean) is " test1.mscz"
Its icon is like that which is usual for a zip file.
If I right-click on it then as "type" in "Properties" is: "Archive (application/zip)"
Because I have first done the "Open with" > "Other Application" and selected "MuseScore" and make this the default,
the file now opens with MuseScore but I find it strange that this ".mscz" file is a "zip" file and expected the usual
MuseScore icon for it.
Hope this helps to make things a bit clearer.

Quite a few file types are actually archives (ie. files containing other files) .. take for example Microsoft Word 2010 .docx, they are also compressed archives that contain all the elements that make up the document.
